I have an ISX 450HP with 730000 miles that for the last 30000 miles suffers from low oil pressure. it has been in the shop many times for this problem. things done include checking oil filter housing and oil cooler for cracks and defects. check valves, oil pump main and rod bearings have been replaced. no execieve blow by. after changing oil and filter at about 2500 miles pressure starts to drop off to 20psi. change filter and pressure returns to normal for about 1500 miles and drops off again. i have change to delvac and pressure lasted to 4000 miles plugged filter changed filter to baldwin (was using fleetgaurd) pressure returned for 4400 miles more and replaced again w/fleetgaurd for 1500miles any ideas thx Dan

Oldmandan,

When you say, "i have change to delvac and pressure lasted to 4000 miles plugged filter changed filter to baldwin"

Do you mean that the filter was opened and it was found to be plugged?

I just opened a filter w/1500 miles that had plugged and found carbon deposits. I have talking to my truck salesman who called some of his bigger customers and found they are also having problems w/older models that have been switched to CJ4 oil from CI4 oil I'm changing oil today to Delvac CI4 oil and baldwin filter and will let everyone know the results. Thx Dan

Hi,
oldmandan - Are you using a lubricant that has Cummins Approvals? If so what is the Approval number for your engine series?

Hi. Yes I have been using Rottela 15/40cj4. Now using Delvac 15/40 ci-4 both are approved by Cummins. Apparently older Cummins and Cats are having a problem with the CJ-4 formula and are plugging oil filters with carbon deposits??? I have found that Baldwin filters last longer than Fleetgaurd filters do with this problem Thanks Dan

What is low to u? My isx idles at 20 to 30 (why the variance I have no idea) and runs at 40 psi.

Is the ECM logging low oil pressure codes? Is the low oil pressure issue at idle or above idle?

Ruslan,

You too are having problems with carbon plugging your oil filters after switching from CI-4 to CJ-4?
